Mrs Roberts was blown away by 1R’s writing this week. We had to write a recount of a day in the life of the jolly postman and we all used our very best handwriting. We even remembered to use time connectives including ‘first’, ‘next’, ‘then’, ‘after that’ and ‘finally’.
Our work is up on display in the classroom so do come up and take a look if you get chance!
This week we have been learning how to measure lengths, heights and width. We’ve learned all about hand spans and compared different objects to see if they are longer or shorter than them!
As part of our Explore Week we ventured into the Arboretum to search for signs of Autumn. We saw lots of Autumnal things including falling leaves, berries, seeds and pine cones. It was all very exciting and we loved learning outdoors. We also learned all about evergreen and deciduous trees and did some observational drawings of them.
1R have LOVED their art lesson this week. We created beautiful pictures of Jack climbing a magical, glittery beanstalk using all sorts of materials and techniques. If you’d like to see them, do come up to our classroom where they will soon be displayed in our Reading Garden.
This week we have been getting all technical and learning how to program a beebot. The beebots became different characters from the Little Red Riding Hood story and we directed them through the woods. We had great fun and learned lots about navigating.
This week in 1R we have been getting all dramatic and using lolly stick puppets to act out the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The children have been learning all about expression and using different voices for characters. If your child is fluent enough in their reading, you could practice this together when looking at their school reading book at home.
Well we have had a super first week in Year 1, getting to know our new classroom and teachers. We have had great fun doing some team building challenges and we’ve made lots of new friends. We can’t wait to see what next week has in store!
1R have been learning all about life cycles and have loved observing the changes from caterpillar to butterfly (we have been keeping live creatures in our classroom). Today it was time to set the butterflies free and we couldn’t believe how high they flew!
This week was our Sports Day at Lovell House and we had such fun! Thankfully the weather stayed nice and cool and we all performed really well and with great sportsmanship!

Our favourite part of the day was seeing our parents take part in some races too!
