This week we have been getting all technical and learning how to program a beebot. The beebots became different characters from the Little Red Riding Hood story and we directed them through the woods. We had great fun and learned lots about navigating.
This week in 1R we have been getting all dramatic and using lolly stick puppets to act out the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The children have been learning all about expression and using different voices for characters. If your child is fluent enough in their reading, you could practice this together when looking at their school reading book at home.
Well we have had a super first week in Year 1, getting to know our new classroom and teachers. We have had great fun doing some team building challenges and we’ve made lots of new friends. We can’t wait to see what next week has in store!
1R have been learning all about life cycles and have loved observing the changes from caterpillar to butterfly (we have been keeping live creatures in our classroom). Today it was time to set the butterflies free and we couldn’t believe how high they flew!
This week was our Sports Day at Lovell House and we had such fun! Thankfully the weather stayed nice and cool and we all performed really well and with great sportsmanship!
“I loved the long jump!” said Zev Dewshi
Our favourite part of the day was seeing our parents take part in some races too!
This week 1R have worked so hard on their assessments and we are very proud of them. Difficult to believe there is only a few weeks left of Year 1!
This week in 1R we have managed to complete our fantastic fish designs which we have sewed from scratch. It has been amazing to have parents in to help and we are so thankful for their time and support. The children have loved having you! We have worked on our sewing projects over several weeks, starting with a design then practicing some simple stitches, before finally +adding detail.
This week the children have had a special week of learning in maths. Each day they have visited a different classroom and been taught maths by a different teacher! The focus of their learning has been position and direction and they have participated in all sorts of fun activities like treasure hunts, Connect 4, parachute games and beebots. Much of the learning has been outside so they have been able to take full advantage of this beautiful sunny weather!
The children have also had the grand reveal of their sea scene canvas, as Mr Cordy brought it to the classroom to show them this morning! We hope to have this up on display on the Year 1 stairs very soon.
Year 1 were thrilled to have Mr Cordy treat them to a whole morning of Art this week! He taught us how to sketch and paint sea creatures using all sorts of different tools and techniques. We have now created a magnificent canvas of an underwater scene that will be on display on the Year 1 stairs next week. Please come and have a look!
We are having a fantastic Building Week so far. Our favourite activity up to now is definitely today’s Lego Workshop where we spent a whole morning building a lego city. We learned lots about how to build different buildings including houses, windmills, hotels, castles, roads and bridges.
